Got a Letter About the Radio/Broadcasting Fee in Germany?

Here’s what it is and what to do:

What is the Broadcasting Fee (GEZ)?

Every household in Germany must pay this fee, but only one payment per household is required.

Payment Options:

You can choose to pay monthly, quarterly, or annually.

Before You Pay:

Check with Your Landlord: Ask if they are already paying the fee for your place. Check with Roommates: If you have roommates who lived there before you, ask if they are paying the fee. If someone is already paying, use their customer number to reply to the letter, stating that the fee is covered.

If No One is Paying the Fee:

You will need to register and pay the fee yourself. Fill out the form sent to you by post. Choose your preferred payment period (monthly, quarterly, or annually).

Important:

You need an active German bank account for SEPA Direct Debit transfer.
